So you are probably saying to yourself that either you don’t make mistakes, or that there must be many. Well of course when you are starting out there will always be a few but these things can be tuned over time. Eventually you’ll learn where to look, what not to be fooled by and how to spot the minor trends that will become bigger. But as a newbie to trend prediction or forecasting, these mistakes are expected. However, there is 1 big mistake that I see even the most experienced forecasters making on occasion……

It’s surprising that Animal prints look like they are still hanging around for both SS13 and AW13. Finally they are going into a smaller proportion so it looks like they will be heading off, but for this year animal prints are still all over the place.

This was the reason that last year I put an animal print book together with loads of artworks, covering lion heads, deer, moose, eagles, and a number of others as well as repeats, snakes, leopards, tigre, zebra girraffe spots even, plus some small kitsch repeats.

How to calculate yarn.....?:

So how do you calculate the amount of yarn you need for a knitting pattern? Well it can seem a bit complicated can’t it and I admit it’s not always the quickest thing to do, but with this guide, I provide a full set of instructions on the method of how to calculate 3 different levels of accuracy for any shape or pattern.

Level 1 The main set of instructions is the box rule and provides a really simple quick estimation of your yarn meterage

Level 2 Provides a slightly more accurate level of yarn calculation for tricky pattern shapes in a supplement page

Level 3 Is the most detailed way of calculating your yarn and can be applied to any shape or mixed with the other two methods to accurately predict your yarn down to the stitch.

With the Calculate Meters Method, you will only ever have to do the hard bit once and then just input the numbers per swatch. Easy!
